I am pretty sure you guys are familiar with the state called ‘coma’ when it comes to medical science. Apparently it’s very common and is very dangerous at the same time. For those of you living on the moon, coma is a state of unconsciousness. It can last for days during which the patient cannot be awakened. Moreover, the patient is rendered irresponsive to light, pain and sound. Usually, a coma is caused by an injury to the cerebral cortex or the reticular activating system. It creates brain irregularities and causes people to experience post-traumatic amnesia. During the past years there have been many successful revivals from this particular state. This article discusses ten celebrities who suffered coma and survived it as well.
10. BURT REYNOLDS
He is an American actor and a stand-up comedian. His debut film released in 1961. Clint Eastwood was his close friend and since this guy was good on TV, he was advised by Clint to use that name and earn good roles in movies. He claims that he was once offered the role of James Bond after Sean Connery. Apparently he turned that role saying that it can’t be played by an American. He has a star on the ‘Hollywood walk of fame’. He earned that in 1978. This guy was in coma for eight hours; the shortest time in this list and therefore the number ten spot.
9. JAYCEON TAYLOR
His stage name is ‘Game’. His real name however, is Jayceon Taylor. He is an American rapper and an actor. He entered the spotlight when he was a member of G-Unit. That was the hip-hop unit of 50 Cent. He earned two Grammy Awards for his debut album called ‘The Documentary’. He had two more successful albums after that. He is considered as one of the main causes to revive the West Coast hip hop. West Coast was overshadowed by East and South since the death of Tupac Shakur in 1996. This guy was in a coma for 3 days.
8. STAN GETZ
This guy is a jazz saxophone player. He was known as ‘The Sound’. He is regarded as one of the greatest tenor saxophonists in the history of music. He is responsible for popularizing the music style known as ‘bossa nova’. It is a mix of samba and jazz. His most popular single was released in 1964 called ‘The Girl from Ipanema’. He has won a Grammy for his Desafinado. That particular number sold over one million copies. He was in a coma for 3 days.
7. MARTIN LAWRENCE
He is an American actor and a stand-up comedian. He had his own television series in the 90s named ‘Martin’ and that’s when he hit the spotlights. The series ran from 1992 to 1997. He is notable in his roles in Bad Boys, Blue Streak and Big Momma’s House. He has always had an erratic behavior. He also hosted Saturday Night Live on February 19th in 1994 and made some remarks about the female genitalia and hygiene. He was in coma for three days.

His real name is Stevland Morris. His stage name is Stevie Wonder. He is an American singer and songwriter. He became blind shortly after his birth. He signed up with the Motown Records when he was eleven. He has more than thirty U.S top ten hits to his name and has received 22 Grammy Awards (ain’t that something?). He was named as the United Nations Messenger of Peace in 2009. This poor guy suffered from a coma for four days.

This guy was an American musician. He showed amazing skills with the guitars and vocals and even as a songwriter. You do remember the Grateful Dead right? He is known as one of the best guitarists around the world and is known for his ‘soulful extended guitar improvisations’. He toured with the Grateful Dead exclusively performing around 2,314 shows. This guy was and still is an inspiration to many guitarists and singers. He stayed in come for five days.
4. OZZY OSBOURNE
This guy is an English heavy metal vocalist and a songwriter. His band helped create the heavy metal genre that we are now very familiar with. Black Sabbath is the name of his band, for those of you who are totally out of this music. He has sold over 100 million albums in his musical career. This guy has abused drugs and alcohol during his life. He was diagnosed by Parkinson Syndrome in 2005 and he is on daily medication. He went through a coma that lasted for 8 days.
3. SHARON STONE
She is an American actress and she was a model as well. You guys must know her role in ‘Basic Instinct’. She was internationally recognized for her role in that thriller. She has been listed by the People Magazine as one of the top 50 beautiful women of the world. She has received a Golden Globe award for her performance in Casino. Some of her major movies include Total Recall, The quick and the Dead, Silver and Sphere. She was in a coma for 9 days.
2. EVEL KNIEVEL
This guy is an American daredevil, entertainer and a motorcycle crazy person. He performed over 75 ramp-to-ramp motorcycle jumps during his career. At the peak of his career he decided to do a stunt. He launched himself across the Snake River Canyon. After the launch, the parachute deployed that slowed down the speed and the wind blew it back. He came flying back to the ground. He suffered minor injuries. This guy suffered from a coma for 29 days.
1. GARY BUSEY
This guy is an American film and stage actor and has appeared in many films. He debuted in Angles Hard as they Come. He received an Academy Award nomination for his role as Buddy Holly in ‘The Buddy Holly Story’. He was able to lose 32 pounds in order to get that part. During his career he appeared in over 150 films and TV shows. You must remember him from Silver Bullet, Lethal Weapon, Point Break, Black Sheep and Under Siege. The poor guy was in coma for about 33 days.
