There are so many different medical syndromes in the world that actual classification is nearly impossible. But there are certainly some syndromes that are very weird. This particular article deals with exactly those kind of syndromes that are mind-boggling while I went through these I really felt sorry for these people who because just like phobias, not all the syndromes are treatable! So begin reading and find out what several people go through in their daily lives!
10. Moebius Syndrome
This is one the rarest disorder which a person has by birth. It is a neurological disorder that renders the patients incapable of any expressions! What happens is that the patient is not able to move their eyes from right to left or to give any sort of facial expression due to the reason that they cannot use the muscles in their face. In simple words that cannot frown, or smile, or making the O face, or show grimace! This order might also cause club feet which might be due to the skeletal issues that come along with this syndrome. Other problems that can be associated with this include respiratory problems, speech problems, swallowing disorders, visual impairments, weak upper body strength, and sleep disorders!
9. Busy Life Syndrome
When you read that the main symptoms of this syndrome are a tendency to forget things and a serious lack of concentration, you might think that you are suffering from this syndrome too! Although the fact that forgetfulness occurs in the old age but recently it has been observed that due to a very busy life at work and a hectic schedule at home, forgetfulness is becoming increasingly common in people who are younger in age! Lead researchers are ground quoting that another aspect of why we having suddenly started becoming to forgetful is also because of excessive information that is received from so many different media channels and stations which I think is true!
8. Walking Corpse Syndrome (Cotard’s Syndrome)
This is one of those syndromes that generally not found to be chronic and may be a part of various mood disorders or in the worst case, they may be a feature of schizophrenic organic disorder of some kind! What happens to patients who are suffering from this is that they tend to think they are not alive! Not only this, the patients think that they do not exist at all, some might think they have lost all of their organs or their blood. Then there are patients who think that they smell like rotting fish. When I found out about this syndrome, I felt really sorry for such people!
7. Gourmand Syndrome
If a person has had an injury to the right frontal lobe than they might be in for the gourmand syndrome. What happens to such people is that they develop a strange attraction towards gourmet food! It is because of lesions or an injury to the right frontal lobe that the patients have this intense urge to eat fine food! Although the condition is benign and is not all that horrifying as we might most syndromes and is certainly no where near schizophrenia but never the less, it can be heavily injurious to ones wallet!
6. Genital Retraction Syndrome
This is one of those syndromes that actually made me laugh and no not because I am mean but simply because it is very silly. What happens is that patients start thinking that their genitals (which includes the bosom of a woman for female patients) have started to shrink. Some think that they are retracting back into the body so much so that they keep fearing that the genitals will disappear altogether! This condition is often found in cultures where there are not enough or suitable medical practices. This syndrome is obviously related to the brain and has nothing to with voodoo or which craft but this is what the people without sufficient knowledge seem to think! It has been rumored that in Asia and Africa, this disease got so widespread that it became known as “penis panics”! I am sure at this point you all are at the point of hysterics!
5. Non-24-Hour Sleep-Wake Syndrome
This is one of the chronic syndromes in which the normal sleeping pattern of the patient is delayed by one or two hours and there is a chronic steady pattern where the delay is only related to the sleep on set and to the wake up time! The delays occur in a pattern that completes its cycle in as much as a week sometimes! Due to the disturbance in the body clock the patient eventually suffers from serious night-time sleeplessness and then that is obviously followed by extreme fatigue during the day time!
This is one neurological disorder that is caused due to some imbalance in the genetics of a person! The interesting thing is that this disorder mostly affect blind people rather than sighted people!
4. Foreign Accent Syndrome
This is a syndrome where the speech of a normal person takes a very dramatic turn. This normally happens after a person has hit his head which has caused brain damage. What this sort of problem does is that it alters the normal accent of a person and people have started to speak in foreign languages that were previously unknown to them!
3. Exploding Head Syndrome
In this syndrome, the patients tend to hear exploding noises and they have reported that these loud noises originate from their own head! The bad thing is that these loud noises which may vary from gunshots to roars to bomb explosions occur right after they have gone to sleep which is very sad!
Such victims are not injured or otherwise hurt but they do feel fear and anxiety after such attacks! The condition is linked to fatigue and extreme tiredness!
2. Fish Odor Syndrome (Trimethylaminuria)
This one here is a very rare disease. I would refrain from the biological dialogue and would tell you that there is some enzyme that is supposed to break down trmethylaminuria in the food and due to the lack of that, a person’s sweat, breath, or urine, give off a very strong odour which in worst cases smells like raw fish!
1. Sexsomnia Disorder
Last but certainly not the least we have Sexsomnia. I am sure nearly all of the readers have heard about sleep walking, but this one constitutes a person having sex while sleeping. This can be alone or with a partner but this is weird so I would not say further on this topic. One interesting thing is that this disorder has been used as a defence in some cases of rape!
